Crowded Island
2023, oil on canvas, 11" x 14"
Glaciers carved what is today known as the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, featuring rugged cliffs, towering rock formations, rocky shores and sandy beaches, and thousands of lakes and streams, interspersed with islands. The BWCAW is a unique area over one million acres in size and is located in the Superior National Forest in northeastern Minnesota. It extends close to 150 miles along the United States and Canadian border adjacent to Quetico and La Verendrye Provincial Parks to the north and by Voyageurs National Park in the west.
A Piece of Twin Ports History
The wood frame featured in this original piece carries a story of resilience. It was reclaimed from the historic Globe Grain Elevator in Superior, Wisconsin—once the largest grain elevator in the world. Following the monumental fire of 2018, this rare, old-growth timber was salvaged from the ashes. Its rich texture and history bring a deep, grounded sense of local heritage to this original painting.
